Itinerary

Day 1: Copenhagen Arrival

Denmark Photo Upon arrival in Copenhagen, make your way to your hotel for the night. There are many things to see and do during your stay. Be sure to ask the front desk for the schedule of events and fireworks at Tivoli Gardens.

Day 2: Explore Copenhagen

Denmark Photo Enjoy a wonderful Danish buffet breakfast before experiencing Wonderful Copenhagen! Between the wonderful museums and enchanting gardens, Copenhagen has something for everyone. Use your 24hr City Cards for admissions and public transportation as you explore.

Day 3: Copenhagen - Odense

Denmark Photo After breakfast at the hotel collect your car from the rental office in the city centre and depart Copenhagen. Drive across the impressive bridge to the island of Funen, often referred to as Denmark's Garden. The area gets its nickname from the fact that most of Denmark's fruit is grown here. Spend the day on this picturesque island doted with large manor houses and villages with half timbered houses. While on Funen, be sure to visit Egeskov Castle. The Renaissance castle is the best preserved island castle in Europe and is romantically located on oak pillars in the middle of a lake.

From there make your way to Odense for the night. While in Odense we suggest a visit to the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, a newly renovated museum built in the restored home where the fairy tale writer was born. Enjoy the evening as you learn about Danish fairy tales.

Day 4: Odense - Aarhus

Denmark Photo Enjoy your breakfast buffet at the hotel before continuing via Middelfart across the Lille Baelt bridge to Jutland. On your way to Aarhus, drive via Jelling to witness the famous burial mounds as well as two stones with runic inscriptions placed there by the Viking kings Gorm the Old and Harald Blue Tooth. Continue on to the picturesque city of Silkeborg in the heart of the Danish Lake District. Here you can ascend Denmark's highest hill, the 147 meter (483 feet) high Himmelbjerget (Sky Mountain). Finally make your way to Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark, for the evening. While in Aarhus, we suggest that you visit "Den Gamle By" - an open-air museum with a collection of town houses from all over the country. There are 61 homes, cobbled stoned streets and gardens, shops and markets, that will give you a good idea of what life was like in the good old days!

Day 5: Aarhus - Aalborg

Denmark Photo After breakfast at the hotel continue north to the tip of Jutland and to the city of Skagen. Here you can walk out to the tip and see where the waters of Kattegat and Skagerrak meet. In the town you can also visit the Skagen Museum, which has some of the area's best known artists' works exhibited. Continue on to Aalborg for the evening.

Day 6: Aalborg - Copenhagen

Denmark Photo Today continue south bound, through Rold forest, towards Randers, and then out to the east coast, through the Mols hills to Ebeltoft. Here you will find yourself in a fairy tale town with the tiniest City Hall you have ever seen. Quaint old houses line the cobbled stone streets and medieval builds. Be sure to visit the old town center for a look back on Denmark's history. Return to Sealand by ferry as you cross open waters on your way to the northern tip. The journey will take about 1 hour and you will disembark in Sealandsodde. Drive back to Copenhagen, passing through the city of Roskilde. Here you have the opportunity to visit the Viking ship museum situated at the end of the Roskilde Fjord, and Roskilde Cathedral, where all the Danish Royalty are buried. Drop off your rental car and enjoy your last night in Copenhagen.

Day 7: Depart Copenhagen

Denmark Photo After another wonderful buffet breakfast say Good Bye to Wonderful Copenhagen as you prepare for your next adventure! Ask Runic Travels for tour suggestions or extensions from Copenhagen.
