Itinerary

Day 1: Copenhagen - Narsarsuaq - Alluitsup Paa

Greenland PhotoDepart Copenhagen at 10:15am for your flight to Narsarsuaq via Air Greenland. Upon arrival continue by helicopter to the cozy and exotic fishing village of Alluitsup Paa. The village is reminiscent of Disko Bay and the local hunters still bring their catch to sell at the local markets. Check into your hotel and enjoy a walking city tour as the guide explains about daily life and tells the history of the village. After the tour visit a Greenlander's home for "Coffee-Mik." This traditional cup of coffee is served to all visitors as a greeting and a way to learn about this unique culture and its people. Dinner will be served in the evening.

Day 2: Alluitsup Paa

After breakfast travel by boat to the island of Uunartoq where it will be possible to take a bath in the geothermal hot springs while watching the surreal icebergs float past. At Uunartoq spend time visiting ruins and graves of old Inuit settlements. The cruise continues through the fjord to the colorful settlement Lichtenau. The town is a former missionary station and the birth place of Samuel Petrus Kleinschmidt, who produced the first Greenlandic translation of the Bible. Return to Alluitsup Paa in the evening.

Day 3: Alluitsup Paa - Qaqortoq - Narsaq

Greenland PhotoEnjoy breakfast at the hotel in the morning. Then transfer to Qaqortoq where you'll have time to see the town and the art project, "Man and Stone," before continuing to Narsaq for the evening. Upon arrival, walk through Narsaq where the guide will tell about the daily life in a Greenland town. Visit the newer part as well as the old Kayak Harbor, where local hunters still bring in seals. A visit to one of the local stores and the local market "Brædtet" show how the old ways of life intermingle with the modern world. Lunch and a visit to the little museum are included.

Day 4: Narsaq

In the morning be prepared for an amazing hike through the Dyrnæs Peninsula. The easy hike passes Norse ruins and Inuit graves as you travel along some of the most beautiful views in the world. The hike is approx 6hrs long and includes a lunch break as well as shorter photo breaks and educational antidotes along the way. Return to Narsaq in the evening.

Day 5: Narsaq

After breakfast sail across the ice filled Bredefjord to the Inland Ice Cap. Go a shore on an island emerging from the edge of the ice cap at the twin glaciers and walk up and touch the ice cap! A packed lunch is served while you take a break to enjoy the scenery. Before returning to Narsaq sail into a bay with steep cliffs full of birds and a huge waterfall. The evening is yours to explore the city of Narsaq with dinner at Restaurant Klara.

Day 6: Narsaq - Narsarsuaq

Greenland Photo by Karsten BidstrupAfter breakfast there is a transfer to the docks for your cruise back to Narsarsuaq. Transfer to your hotel for check in and a tour to Erik the Red's Viking ruins. Cross the fjord by boat and go ashore at Qassiarsuk, a sheep breeding settlement, situated on the very spot where Erik the Red settled in the year 985. Visit the ruins of "Brattahlid", his farm, as well as some local Inuit ruins nearby. In the afternoon, cross the Johan Dahl's Land by helicopter to Lake Nordbo (680 meters above sea level). A ground stop makes it possible to leave the helicopter and enjoy the fantastic scenery of Lake Nordbo, the surrounding mountains and a huge glacier wall on one side. Rising up from the glacier is the Ice Cap. (This tour is not included in the price and must be booked locally due to ever changing weather conditions.)

Day 7: Narsarsuaq

Today cruise between icebergs to the mouth of the Qooroq Glacier. The Greenland ice cap is producing 250 million tons of icebergs every summer and the Qooroq Glacier is one of the most active. Silently drift in the amazing surrounding as you listen to the glacier "calving." Return to your hotel and enjoy your last night in Greenland.
