ItineraryDay 1: Arrival
Day 2: Þingvellir - SnæfellsnesDepart Reykjavík to Þingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic government and the rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. From there proceed over the mountain pass, Kaldidalur, to Hraunfossar waterfall and Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in the world, before heading to Snæfellsnes peninsula for the evening. Day 3: Snæfellsnes peninsulaExplore the magnificent columnar basalt rock formations at Arnarstapi, before circling around the legendary Snæfellsjökull glacier. Along the way, visit Stykkishólmur and the famous Eric the Red museum. The day ends by crossing Laxárdalsheiði to the north. Day 4: Skagafjörður - Akureyri - TjörnesVisit the regional history museum at Glaumbær, a turf-roofed farmhouse, and continue to Akureyri, the capital of Northern Iceland. Here enjoy a short sightseeing tour before heading for Goðafoss waterfall and the Tjörnes peninsula. Day 5: Ásbyrgi - Dettifoss - MývatnThe day begins with a visit to Ásbyrgi, a horseshoe-shaped canyon, and continues to Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, in the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon. The day ends with a tour of the Mývatn area, a wonderland for nature enthusiasts which is surrounded by lava fields, volcanoes and mountains. Day 6: Lake Mývatn - SprengisandurThe tour continues inland across the wilderness of Sprengisandur, passing the largest continuous lava field in Iceland, Ódáðahraun. Day 7: Landmannalaugar - Skaftafell National ParkIn the morning stop at Landmannalaugar, a magnificent area surrounded by colorful rhyolite mountains with the option of bathing in a natural hot pot! From Landmannalaugar, the tour follows the Fjallabaksleið interior track to Skaftafell National Park, a perfect place for hiking and relaxing in beautiful natural surroundings. Day 8: Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon - Skaftafell National ParkVisit Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon at the beginning of the day for an optional boat tour among the floating icebergs. Enjoy hiking and spending an afternoon exploring Skaftafell National Park, one of Iceland's most outstanding areas of natural beauty, dominated by Vatnajökull, Europe's largest ice cap. Day 9: Vík - DyrhólaeyThe tour proceeds over the vast Eldhraun lava fields of Mýrdalssandur to Dyrhólaey headland for a short stop and time for exploration. Then continue to the Hella area for the evening, along the way passing two beautiful waterfalls, Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. Day 10: Gullfoss - Geysir - Blue Lagoon - ReykjavíkToday's drive includes the thermal area of the great Geysir and Strokkur, a spouting hot spring. Continue onwards to the golden waterfall Gullfoss and along the south coast of the Reykjanes peninsula, ending the tour at the Blue Lagoon. Here enjoy a relaxing soak in the mineral rich waters. Upon return to Reykjavik, spend another night at your hotel in down town Reykjavik. Day 11: DepartureA return transfer via Flybus is provided, but please remember to schedule your departure time with your hotel's front desk.
