ItineraryDay 1: Arrivel at KeflavíkArrivel at Keflavík airport and pick up your travel documents. Transfer with Flybus (airport shuttle) to your hotel in Iceland's capital city of Reykjavík. Day 2: Þingvellir National ParkDrive to Þingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament and a geologic wonder. It is here where the continental plates of North America and Eurasia are separating, creating a hot bed of geo-thermal activity. The park itself is situated in stunning volcanic landscapes of mountains and lava flows, on the border of Iceland's largest lake. Continue to the famous hot springs at Geysir and the mighty waterfall Gullfoss. Both areas are unlike anything you have experienced. Be sure to bring your camera! Day 3: Spectacular South CoastDrive along the spectacular south coast, viewing highlights such as Skógafoss waterfall, Mýdalsjökull glacier, Dyrhólaey and the black sands of Vík. You will continue across the Eldhraun lava field to the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Another option is to drive the beautiful mountain track, Fjallabaksleið, through the Landmannalaugar nature reserve. (4WD needed, track open from mid-June) Day 4: Spectacular Glacial Valley of Skaftafell National ParkVisit the spectacular glacial valley of Skaftafell National Park. Here you have the option of spectacular hiking routes to stretch your legs. Continue to the shimmering icebergs of Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon and to the harbour town of Höfn. Day 5: The Spectacular East FjordsDrive yourself through the spectacular East Fjords with its towering mountains and charming fishing villages to the fertile Egilsstaðir area. Along the way take a boat tour to Papey island, the summer nesting grounds for Iceland's puffin population, or visit the famous stone collection of Petra at Stöðvarfjörður. Day 6: Möðrudalsöræfi HighlandsContinue across the Möðrudalsöræfi highlands renowned for their stark beauty to Dettifoss, the mightiest waterfall in Europe. Explore the many wonders of the Jökulsárgljúfur National Park such as the strange formations of Hljóðaklettar (Echo Rocks) and the impressive horseshoe-shaped Ásbyrgi canyon. On to Tjörnes peninsula and Húsavík. Day 7: Lake MývatnSpend the day exploring beautiful Lake Mývatn and the surrounding area. Visit highlights such as Dimmuborgir, the pseudocraters of Skútustaðir, the colorful sulfurous slopes of Námaskarð and the Krafla volcano. Be sure to spend some time at the Myvatn Nature Baths, the "Blue Lagoon of the North." Here you can sit and relax in the fresh blue waters of the lagoon while gazing out over the surrounding mountains and valleys. Drive to Akureyri, the capital of the North, for the evening. Hverir at Námaskarð in Mývatn area Day 8: AkureyriExplore the fascinating town of Akureyri in the morning. The town has several museums as well as one of the most unique botanical gardens in the world. Even though the city is only a few kilometers south of the Arctic Circle the garden boasts plants from New Zealand, Spain and even Tanzania. Continue via the fertile valley of Skagafjörður, renowned for horse breeding, to Hrútafjörður area. Optional Excursions: River rafting in Skagafjörður, horse riding in Skagafjörður, Glaumbær museum. Day 9: HólmavíkDrive to Hólmavík, across Steingrímsfjarðarheiði, to the spectacular region of the West Fjords, the oldest part of Iceland. Drive the numerous uninhabited fjords of Ísafjarðardjúp teeming with seals and bird life. Continue to Ísafjörður, the largest town in the area. Day 10: ÍsafjörðurExplore the town of Ísafjörður and its surroundings such as the neighboring towns of Bolungarvík and Suðureyri. Day 11: ÍsafjörðurDrive from Ísafjörður through the beautiful West Fjords. A stop at the waterfall Dynjandi is recommended as well as driving to the Látrabjarg cliffs. In summer the 444 meter high sea cliffs are occupied by millions of puffins, gannets, guillemots and razorbills. From here drive onwards to the Flókalundur area. Day 12: StykkishólmurThe day begins as you sail with the ferry, Baldur, across the Breiðafjörður bay through its countless islands and rich bird life to the charming village of Stykkishólmur. Continue to Hellissandur passing thru the fishing villages of Grundarfjörður and Ólafsvík. Day 13: Snæfellsnes peninsulaExplore the countless natural wonders of the Snæfellsnes peninsula such as the rocky beach of Djúpalónssandur and the Arnarstapi sea cliffs before continuing to the Borgarfjörður area and then driving via the Hvalfjörður fjord to Reykjavík. Day 14: DepartureDeparture by Flybus to the airport. You transfer is included but be sure to schedule your departure time with the front desk. Enjoy your flight home with Iceland Air.
