ItineraryDay 1: Arrival at Keflavík airportUpon arrival at Keflavík airport, pick up your travel documents and transfer via Flybus (airport shuttle) to your hotel located in Iceland's capital city of Reykjavík. Spend the day relaxing as you adjust to the time difference. Day 2: Drive across HellisheiðiDrive across Hellisheiði, the edge of the coast plain, to the hot springs garden village of Hveragerði. Continue to the famous Gullfoss waterfall and the hot springs at Geysir, including the ever erupting geysir Strokkur. Visit Þingvellir, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament, and then through Hvalfjörður fjord or Kaldidalur highland pass (4WD needed) to Borgarfjörður for the evening. Day 3: Drive north through BorgarfjörðurDrive north through Borgarfjörður, to the shores of Húnaflói bay and the towering mountains and horse-breeding valleys of Skagafjörður. From here continue on to the capital of the North, Akureyri. Day 4: Spend the morning in AkureyriSpend the morning in Akureyri, Iceland's second largest city. After exploring the town, continue on to the beautiful Lake Mývatn area. Day 5: Explore the natural wonders of Lake MývatnExplore the natural wonders of Lake Mývatn and the surrounding area, including fantastic lava formations. Visit of the volcanic area of Krafla along with the colorful sulfurous slopes of Námaskarð pass. Day 6: Drive north to the fishing port of HúsavíkDrive north to the fishing port of Húsavík and around the Tjörnes peninsula. Visit Ásbyrgi, a magnificent horseshoe-shaped canyon and Jökulsárgljúfur National Park. Continue on to Dettifoss, Europe's mightiest waterfall, before heading across the highland plateau to Egilsstaðir. Day 7: Drive south through the spectacular East FjordsDrive south through the spectacular East Fjords, where towering, terraced mountains plunge vertically into the ocean and on to the town of Höfn in Hornafjörður, the gateway to the south coast. Optional excursions: Petra's stone collection, boat tour to Papey island the breeding ground for thousands of Atlantic puffins. Day 8: Drive to the shimmering icebergs filled waters of the Jökulsárlón Glacial LagoonDrive to the shimmering icebergs filled waters of the Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon before continuing to Skaftafell National Park where you can take an optional glaciar hike with breathtaking views. From there continue to the quaint village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Optional excursions: Jeep tour to Vatnajökull glacier, Boat tour on Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, glacier hike in Skaftafell area. Day 9: Drive along the spectacular south coastDrive along the spectacular south coast, a sweeping landscape of sandy deserts, rocky shores and rolling farmland sandwiched between snow-capped glaciers, mountains and the ocean. Return to your hotel in Reykjavík for the evening. Day 10: Departure by Flybus to Keflavik AirportDeparture by Flybus to Keflavik Airport. This transfer to the airport is included but be sure to schedule your departure time with the front desk.
