Included

  • Pick up of travel documents at the airport.
  • Arrival and departure transfer with scheduled Flybus.
  • Rental car with unlimited mileage, CDW, VAT and one authorized driver. Pick up of rental car on day 2. Drop off at Keflavík airport or in Reykjavík on departure day before 09:00. If the car is delivered outside this time range, an extra day will be charged.
  • Detailed road map (1:500 000), detailed itinerary and map with marked accommodations.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Keflavík

Arrival at Keflavík airport and pick up of travel documents. Transfer with Flybus (airport shuttle) to your hotel in Iceland's capital, Reykjavík. Spend the day relaxing or exploring the city as you adjust to the time differences.

Day 2: Drive to Þingvellir National Park

Drive to Þingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament and a geographic wonder. Continue to the famous Geysir hot-spring area and the mighty Gullfoss waterfall.
Optional excursions: River rafting in the Geysir area, ATV adventure in Haukadalur.

Day 3: Drive along the breathtaking south coast

Drive along the breathtaking south coast, viewing highlights such as the Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, Mýdalsjökull glacier, Dyrhólaey and the black sands of Vík.
Optional excursions: Snowmobile tour on Mýdalsjökull glacier, Boat tour from Vík, Skógar folk museum.

Day 4: Visit the beautiful Skaftafell National Park

Visit the beautiful Skaftafell National Park nestling between mighty glaciers. Here you can take a once in a lifetime optional hiking tour on the glacier. Continue Onwards to the shimmering icebergs of the Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon.
Optional excursions: Boat tour on Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, glacier hike in Skaftafell area.

Day 5: Drive through the Spectacular East Fjords

Today you will drive through the spectacular East Fjords with their towering mountains and charming fishing villages. Continue on to the fertile Egilsstaðir area. Optional boat tour to Papey island, once a hermatage for Irish monks before the arrival of the Norse. It is now the destination for thousands of puffins who nest here every summer. Another option is to visit the famous stone collection of Petra at Stöðvarfjörður.

Day 6: Dettifoss

Travel across the Möðrudalsöræfi highlands to Dettifoss, the mightiest waterfall in Europe. You will then explore the impressive horseshoe-shaped Ásbyrgi canyon in the Jökulsárgljúfur National Park. Your day ends in the fishing port Húsavík.
Optional excursion: Whale watching from Húsavík.

Day 7: Explore the beauty of the Lake Mývatn area

Explore the beauty of the Lake Mývatn area and the surrounding area highlights such as Dimmuborgir, the pseudocraters at Skútustaðir, the colorful sulfurous slopes of Námaskarð and the Krafla volcano. Onwards to the town of Akureyri.

Day 8: Spend the day exploring Akureyri

Spend the day exploring Akureyri, the capital of the North, and its surrounding area. The city boasts one of the most unique botanical gardens, especially for its latitude. Plants from Austraila, New Zealand and South Africa are right at home here, with a little help from the warm ocean winds. Optional excursion: Visit to Hrísey island, the second largest island of the Iceland coast and the protected breeding ground to Icelands ptarmagan population.

Day 9: Valleys of Skagafjörður fjord

Today you will drive to the horse-breeding valleys of Skagafjörður fjord and then continue to the historical shores of Húnaflói bay. It is this "Bear Bay" where many of Greenland's polar bears have come ashore on stray iceburgs!
Optional excursions: River rafting in Skagafjörður, horse riding in Skagafjörður.

Day 10: Explore Dalir

Explore Dalir, the region of Eric the Red, before continuing to Snæfellsnes peninsula with its countless wonders such as the rocky beach of Djúpalónssandur and Arnarstapi sea cliffs. From here you will continue on to the Borgarfjörður area.

Day 11: Borgarfjörður

In Borgarfjörður visit the natural wonders of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, Reykholt and the hot spring Deildartunguhver. Continue via the Hvalfjörður fjord to Reykjavík, where you have the option of ending your journey at the Blue Lagoon. The optional mineral rich soak in the Blue Lagoon is a MUST after your long journey. Finish your adventure back at your hotel in Reykavik.

Day 12: Departure

Departure by Flybus to the airport. This transfer is included but please be sure to shedule your departure time with the front desk. Relax on your Iceland Air flight with a lifetime of memories to take home with you!
