Included

  • Pick up of travel documents at the airport. Arrival and departure transfer with scheduled Flybus.
  • Rental car with unlimited mileage, CDW*, VAT and one authorized driver. Pick up of rental car on day 2. Drop off at Keflavík airport or in Reykjavík on departure day before 09:00. If the car is delivered outside of this time range, an extra day will be charged.
  • Accommodation is a combination of farmhouses, guesthouses and hotels. Breakfast is included.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Keflavík airport.

Arrive at Keflavík airport. Pick up travel documents and transfer by Flybus (airport shuttle) to your hotel in Iceland's capital, Reykjavik.

Day 2: Morning flight to Egilsstaðir

Morning flight to Egilsstaðir, the capital of East Iceland. Spend the day in the Egilsstaðir area, with the option of exploring Iceland's only forested area, Hallormsstaður and Lake Lögurinn. It is also possible to visit Borgarfjörður eystri, one of the most beautiful and isolated fjords of the country.
Optional Excursions: Visit to Húsey delta area.

Day 3: The Gateway to the South Coast

Today you drive south through the spectacular East Fjords to the town of Höfn in Hornafjörður, the gateway to the south coast. On the way take an optional boat tour to Papey island. Once a hermatage for Irish monks before the Norse settled Iceland, Papey is now the location where thousands of puffins nest in summer.You may also opt to visit the famous stone collection of Petra at Stöðvarfjörður.

Day 4: Skaftafell National Park

Drive from Höfn to Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon and on to Skaftafell National Park, a natural wonderland in the shadow of the Vatnajökull glacier and surrounded by black desert sands. Skaftafell is an area where lush green meets a frozen glacier. A hike in the park can be arranged. Continue onwards to the picturesque village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Optional Excursions: Jeep tour to Vatnajökull glacier, Boat tour on Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, glacier hike in Skaftafell area.

Day 5: Vík

Today drive across the vast lava field of Eldhraun to Vík, known for its magnificent black basalt beaches and cliffs teeming with bird life. Go past Dyrhólaey, a rocky headland, to Skógafoss, one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country with Mýdalsjökull glacier in the backdrop.
Another option is to drive the beautiful mountain track Fjallabaksleið, through Landmannalaugar nature reserve (4WD needed, track open from late June) Optional Excursions: Snowmobile tour on Mýdalsjökull glacier, Boat tour from Vík, Skógar folk museum.

Day 6: Beautiful Natural Wonders

Your last day brings some of the most beautiful natural wonders of this awesome country. Visit Gullfoss waterfall, the famous Geysir geothermal area and Þingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament. The park itself is situated in a stunning volcanic landscape of mountains and lava flows, on the border of Iceland's largest lake. Continue to Reykjavík in the afternoon.
Optional Excursions: River rafting in the Geysir area, ATV excursion in Haukadalur, soak in the mineral rich waters of the Blue Lagoon.

Day 7: Departure

Depart today via fly bus. Transfer to the airport is included but be sure to schedule your pick-up with the front desk. Depart via Icelandair or extend your vacation to another amazing Scandinavian country with the help of Runic Travels!
