ItineraryDay 1: Arrival at Keflavík airportArrival at Keflavík airport and pick up of travel documents. Transfer with Flybus (airport shuttle) to your hotel in Iceland's capital, Reykjavík. Day 2: Þingvellir National ParkYour adventure starts off with Þingvellir National Park, a place of great geological and historical interest, the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot-spring area. Drive onwards along the south shore, viewing Skógafoss waterfall, the black beaches around Vík and Mýdalsjökull glacier. Day 3: KirkjubæjarklausturDrive through the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, explore Skaftafell National Park, a land where lush vegetation meets the edge of a glacier. Panaramic views of the great Vatnajökull glacier and the surrounding black desert sands abound. Continue to the Glacial Lagoon Jökulsárlón and then onwards to the harbor town Höfn. Day 4: The Rugged Coastline of the East FjordsDrive along the rugged coastline of the East Fjords with their towering mountains and beautiful fishing villages. On the way there is an option of taking a boat tour to Papey island where thousands of puffins nest each summer or visit the unique and famous stone collection of local resident Petra Sveinsdottir at Stöðvarfjörður. Day 5: The Möðrudalsöræfi HighlandsTravel across the Möðrudalsöræfi highlands towards Dettifoss, Europe's mightiest waterfall. Visit the magnificent horseshoe-shaped canyon Ásbyrgi. Onwards to Tjörnes peninsula and Húsavík fishing port. Day 6: Lake MývatnToday explore the highlights of the Lake Mývatn area, such as the volcanic formations at Dimmuborgir, the pseudocraters at Skútustaðir, the colorful sulfurous slopes of Námaskarð and the Krafla volcano. Drive on to Goðafoss waterfall and the town of Akureyri or Skagafjörður. Day 7: SkagafjörðurDrive through the historical region of Skagafjörður renowned for its horsebreeding. There is the option of visiting the old farmstead of Glaumbær, a great example of old Icelandic architecture. Continue to the bay of Húnaflói and across Holtavörðuheiði plateau, returning to Reykjavík in the late afternoon. Spend the evening exploring the city or dining on some of the best seafood or organic lamb you will ever eat. Day 8: DepartureDeparture by Flybus to the airport.
