Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Moscow

Russia PhotoUpon arrival, meet your guide for a transfer to your hotel as well as an orientation tour of the city, including an introduction to the Metro system so you can explore more on your own. The city tour includes a walk through the famous Red Square and views of St. Basil's Cathedral, the Kremlin and Lenin's Mausoleum. Stop at Lenin (Vorobievy) Hills, the highest place in the city, for a beautiful panoramic view of the city. Return to your hotel for the evening.

Day 2: Moscow

Russia PhotoAfter a Russian buffet breakfast meet your guide for a half day tour of the Kremlin Territory including a visit to the Armory Chamber and one Cathedral. An optional visit to the Diamond Treasury is also possible. The Armory building, located in the Northwestern section of the Kremlin, was built in 1851 as a factory for making weapons and armor. Today the Armory houses a museum, in which an enormous collection of Soviet national treasures, including the famous Faberge eggs, is on display. Next door in the Diamond Treasury, visitors can catch a glimpse of the infamous 190-carat Orlov Diamond. If the heart of Russia is the Kremlin, then its soul is the oldest area within the Kremlin, Cathedral Square, the so called "City of God." Six buildings, including three enormous cathedrals, edge the square. Most of them are works of Italian architect during the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Enjoy the evening on your own.

Day 3: Moscow - Vladimir & Suzdal

Russia PhotoToday is a full day tour into the Russian Countryside. The first stop of the day is Vladimir, an architectural gem. Cross the Golden Gate, built in 1164 AD, and enter this ancient village, home to St. George Cathedral and 13th century stone carvings. Visit Assumption Cathedral to witness the preserved frescoes of Andrei Rublev. The town is also known for its world class handicrafts such as embroidery and small paper Mache boxes.

Continue on to the holy city of Suzdal. The town was awarded the Golden Apple Prize by International Journalists' Organization for its preservation of the architectural treasures and tourism development in the area. First mention of the name Suzdal appears in records from 1024 and the first stone church was built here in the 12th century. No modern construction is allowed in the center of the town to preserve its historic ambiance. Today Suzdal is more of an overgrown medieval village than a town. Upon arrival your city tour includes the Kremlin, Spaso-Evfimievsky Monastery and the open air museum filled with examples of local wooden architecture. Continue to Moscow for the evening.

Day 4: Moscow

Russia PhotoUse the day to explore the metropolis on your own. If you would like additional guided tours or tickets to cultural performances, such as the ballet or opera, please let us know. Visit GUM, one of the largest department stores in Russia, or the smaller boutiques along the streets for wonderful gifts and souvenirs of your holiday.

Day 5: Depart Moscow

After your final buffet breakfast a driver will escort you back to the airport or rail station for your journey home. Runic Travels can help arrange any transportation or extensions that you may need. Just ask for more information!
