Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Stockholm

Sweden Photo Caption Upon arrival in Stockholm, make your way to your charming hotel in the heart of Stockholm's Old Town, Gamla Stan. Spend the day strolling the cobbled-stone streets searching for the best shops or use your 24hr Stockholm City Card to explore the many museums and attractions throughout the city.

Day 2: Stockholm

Sweden Photo Caption Spend another day exploring this beautiful city. In the morning enjoy a 3hr tour of the city where you can see Stockholm from all angles. First tour the sights in a double decker motor coach and then cruise the cannels and waterways by boat. The afternoon is yours to see more sights or simply relax in one of the many street cafˇs.

Day 3: Stockholm - Sigtuna - Uppsala

Sweden Photo Caption After another Swedish buffet breakfast pick up your car and drive north to Sigtuna. Founded around 980 AD, Sigtuna is Sweden's oldest surviving town and Stora Gatan is the oldest street. There are several castles in the area as well as runic inscriptions along the way, most dating from the early 11th century. After some time in Sigtuna continue on to Uppsala, the 4th largest city in Sweden and one of it's oldest. The city flourished in the early 6th century and Gamla Uppsala, Old Uppsala, contains several grave mounds said to be from great pre-Viking kings. Check into your hotel and enjoy the evening in the wonderful, historic city. Be sure to visit Uppsala Castle (Slott) to learn of its sorted history.

Day 4: Uppsala - Tällberg

Sweden Photo Caption Continue on your journey to the heart of the folklore district, Tällberg. Home to one of the best Midsummer Festivals, Tällberg is an ideal location for your visit to Dalarna and will be the "home base" for the next 3 nights. Check into your Countryside Hotel and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and warm Swedish hospitality.

Day 5: Tällberg and Dalarna

Sweden Photo Caption We suggest taking a day to explore the northern area and a day to explore the southern. If you choose to go north today be sure to take a trip around Lake Silja and maybe soak up some sun on the beautiful beaches of Rättvik. The city also has a 725meter Rodel Run, which is a type of summer bobsled chute. Give it a shot if you have an adventurous spirit. A visit to Mora and the Anders Zorn home and museum is of interest as well as the Grönlitt Bear Park in Orsa. For a quintessential souvenir be sure to visit Nils Olsson's Hemslöjd for hand made Dala horses, the symbol of Sweden.

Day 6: Tällberg and Dalarna

Sweden Photo Caption Today visit the southern region of Dalarna. Falun has a wonderful copper mine and museum, Koppargruva, and just outside the city is the home of the famous Swedish painter Carl Larsson. See his home, Larssongården, and witness why interior decorators around the world are still inspired by his design. Leksand and Borlånge are also worth a visit, but be sure to spend some time outdoors, hiking or swimming, to really experience the true Swedish life style.

Day 7: Tällberg to Stockholm

Sweden Photo Caption After breakfast say "good bye" to this relaxing and peaceful area and head back to the city bustle of Stockholm. When you arrive, drop off your car and make your way back to your hotel in Gamla Stan. Enjoy your last night at one of the many wonderful restaurants. Stockholm's SOHO district is just south of the island of Gamla Stan in Södermalm.

Day 8: Depart Stockholm

Sweden Photo Caption Enjoy the rest of your time in Stockholm. For more suggestions on sights in Sweden or any of the other exciting Scandinavian countries call Runic Travels!
